Frequently asked questions

How do I maintain the J930 cutter blades in good condition?

Inspect the cutter blade and backing plate regularly. Remove metal build-up from their contact surfaces by hand polishing with a fine stone, without changing the parts’ dimensions. Check the retaining bolts, and replace the cutter blade, backing plate and bolts together as a complete J93099 kit when replacement is needed. Follow the tool instructions for the full maintenance procedure.

Why should I use Band-It Smooth ID clamps instead of Jr clamps?

Junior Smooth ID clamps use a recessed buckle design to maintain a smooth, gap-free inside diameter. This improves contact around the hose and reduces potential leak paths compared with the original Jr clamp design. Their double wrap of band material also increases holding strength.

Should I use Band-It Smooth ID or Centre-Punch clamps?

Choose according to the hose, fitting and service conditions. Jr Smooth ID clamps offer a smooth contact surface, a low-profile lock and reduced potential for leaks or snags. Centre-Punch clamps can be quicker to install, but their hammer-set lock requires care with fittings that could crack, including plastic or cast iron.

Which Band-It clamp should I use: Ultra-Lok, Smooth ID or Centre-Punch?

Start with the hose type, pressure and temperature ratings, conveyed material, fitting and service conditions. Centre-Punch uses a conical lock; Jr Smooth ID adds a smooth sealing surface and a low-profile lip lock; Ultra-Lok locks under full tension and offers higher clamping and locking strength in the manufacturer’s comparison. Test the completed hose assembly before use.

How do I know when I have applied the correct tension?

Suitable tension depends on the application and should be confirmed by testing. The manufacturer’s marker method identifies the band’s yield point: marks on the band stop moving relative to the buckle as tension is applied. Stop at that point; further tightening stretches the band without adding holding force and can cause failure. Follow the PDF’s procedure rather than treating maximum holding force as a universal tension setting.

How do I choose the correct Band-It bracket for mounting signs?

Match the bracket to the pole shape and sign size, and account for wind load, vibration and other exposure. Flared-leg brackets suit round poles; straight-leg brackets suit flat surfaces or fluted poles. Smaller signs use Mini Brack-It options, while larger signs need the appropriate larger bracket, band width and support arrangement.

How do I maintain the Band-It C001 tool’s gripper in good condition?

Metal particles, dirt and oil can pack between the gripper teeth, causing slipping and eventually damaging the teeth. Remove and clean the gripper with a wire brush, maintain lubrication as specified, and reassemble it correctly, including the spring and pin. Follow the tool instructions and the PDF below for the detailed maintenance steps.

Is coloured band available to match a decorative pole?

Yes. Colour-coated Band-It band can match decorative poles or existing hardware. Decorative finishes provide colour matching and durability; the PPA-coated 316 stainless steel band described in this FAQ is not recommended for that decorative application. Contact UES Promura to confirm the colour, finish, dimensions, quantities and lead time for your project.

What are the advantages of Band-It coated cable ties and coated band?

Coatings add corrosion resistance and help protect against abrasion and vibration. Coated 316 stainless steel band is useful for cable bundles that move or flex. The manufacturer recommends winding-mandrel tools for PPA-coated band because aggressive grippers can damage the coating. The PDF explains the different coated band and cable-tie options and their recommended tools.
